A concerned parent, for example, will not want his child to access certain websites and will want to be able to manage the websites the child can access. This is the sort of functionality offered by the Gear Box Computers-developed application Internet Access Controller. With the help of this application, you can specify which websites can be accessed, which websites will be blocked, which applications and services can access the Internet, which IP addresses are allowed to access the web, and how much time can be spent surfing the web.

Internet Access Controller works with 32 as well as 64 bit editions of Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Windows 2000. To install the application on your Windows-powered PC, you will have to download a 2.8MB installation file, run it, and go through a very simple setup wizard. Once the installation process completes, you will be asked to provide a password that will protect Internet Access Controller from unauthorized access.

The interface displays several tabs on the left hand side; the tabs correspond to certain parts of the functionality offered by Internet Access Controller. What you see in the right hand side of the interface depends on what tab you click.

From the Allowed Web Sites tab, for example, you can set up a list of websites that can be accessed while Internet Access Controller is running. From the Blocked Web Sites tab you can set up a list of websites that will not be available while Internet Access Controller is running. You can choose to block the websites from the blocked list and allow all other sites, or block the websites on the blocked list and allow only the websites from the allowed list. Please note that after you set up the list, you must turn on the internet filter for Internet Access Controller to do its job. You can do so by clicking on the big red banner in the upper part of the interface (it will turn green when you click to enable) or from the Internet Access Controller icon in the system tray (right click the icon, select Turn Internet Filter ON).

If you want to go deeper than simply selecting which websites can and cannot be accessed, Internet Access Controller lets you do that. You can set up a list of allowed services, allowed IP addresses, and allowed programs.

Besides wanting to prevent your child from accessing inappropriate websites, you may also want to restrict the amount of time he spends online. From the Time Management tab you can set up an internet usage schedule, or you can launch a timer.

As mentioned above, access to Internet Access Controller is password protected – you can specify the password after the installation process completes. It must be added here that you can set it up so the Internet Access Controller system tray icon is not displayed, that you can activate an event log, and that you can set it up so Internet Access Controller’s internet filter turns on automatically at startup.

15 days is the amount of time you can use Internet Access Controller for free. You will have to get a license to keep using the application once that trial period is over.

Easily block access to certain websites with the efficient Windows tool Internet Access Controller.

Pros

32 and 64-bit editions of Windows are supported. Access to Internet Access Controller is password protected to prevent unauthorized use.
